Women and Judaism with Dr. Gila Silverman

3-4:30pm This class will explore many different facets of women’s roles and histories within Jewish text and tradition. This will include women in the Bible and Talmud, Jewish laws about women's rights and obligations, Jewish feminism, modern women’s midrash, and women's involvement in ritual and prayer. Specific topics will be chosen based on the interests of the group.  

Instructor: Dr. Gila Silverman is an anthropologist and writer, specializing in the study of ritual and identity among American Jews. She is an honorary Visiting Scholar at the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies, and has conducted research on women’s experiences in Jewish academia, gender and Jewish mourning, prayer for healing, American Jewish identities, and Jewish spiritual development.

Prayerbook Hebrew Class
Learn the structure of the Shabbat Service, meaning of prayers, basic grammar, and how to sing and read the prayers. Participation via Zoom is available! Mondays 12:00 - 1:00 PM in the Bet Midrash. 10 Sessions $72. Oct. 28, Nov. 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, Dec. 2, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and Jan. 6. 

Intermediate Modern Hebrew
For people with basic knowledge of modern Hebrew, and command of present tense. Modern Hebrew conversation and grammar, class taught with the educational videos, worksheets, and other tools. Participation through Zoom is available! Mondays from 3:15- 4:15 p.m.. Dates,  Oct. 28, Nov. 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, Dec. 2, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and Jan. 6.
