Ambassadors for Israel- Notes from November meeting

1.Update about Arabic classes at Cholla H.S.

Qatar Foundation International is no longer providing grant money for Arabic classes in Tucson Unified School District, including Cholla H.S. The Arabic language teacher at Cholla H.  S. is Nour Jandali who is providing effective unbiased instruction.

2.We discussed HR 2407, a bill cosponsored by AZ Rep Raul Grijalva which addresses the detention of Palestinian children by Israel. We also discussed Rachel Port’s Letter to the Editor in the AZ Daily Star which thanks Rep. Grijalva.

4. Carlos Graizbord presented his ideas about anti-semitism on campuses and in schools.

5. PBS broadcast an interview with Derek Black, who was raised as a white supremacist but changed his views as a result of his experiences at a college in Florida, including Shabbat dinners at the home of a Jewish friend.  https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/derek-black-grew-up-as-a-white-nationalist-heres-how-he-changed-his-mind

Next meeting Dec. 4, 2019  Inbal Shtivi, a shlicha (Israeli emissary) and the new Director of the Weintraub Israel Center will attend our December meeting to assist us.
