Jewish Mourning Traditions
Jewish Mourning Traditions with Dr. Gila Silverman
in collaboration with the Southwest Folklife Alliance End of Life project
Over the course of four Mondays in May, we will study Jewish practices for the end-of-life and mourning. Because the sessions will build on each other, attending the full series is encouraged, but drop-ins are also welcome.
Please download or print this document for study during the class.
The class will meet on Monday afternoons, 3-4:00 pm, on the following dates:
May 4, 11, 18, 25
Instructor:
Dr. Gila Silverman is an anthropologist and writer, specializing in the study of ritual and identity among American Jews. She is a Visiting Scholar at the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies and has conducted research on women’s experiences in Jewish academia, gender and Jewish mourning, prayer for healing, American Jewish identities, and Jewish spiritual development.
