Your Legacy: Securing the Heart of Bet Shalom

Founded in 1982, Congregation Bet Shalom was built on a simple but profound idea: that Judaism in Tucson should be accessible, meaningful, and deeply personal. We believe that financial circumstances should never be a barrier to Jewish connection. However, to maintain this radical inclusivity in an era of rising costs, we must transition from a model of "meeting today’s needs" to "securing tomorrow’s dreams." Our free-will giving model ensures that our doors stay open to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Still, to keep these doors open for the next 40 years, in addition to your regular generosity—we need a permanent foundation.

Why an Endowment? Why Now?

Our Bet Shalom community is growing, and the world around us is changing. Now, more than ever, the Jewish community needs a sanctuary that is physically secure and spiritually vibrant. To meet this moment, we are building a "forever fund" to sustain:

  • An Enhanced Campus: We are outgrowing our walls. We need a campus that is large enough to meet the needs of our growing Kehillah while keeping our homey feel — we have set a transformative goal of $6 million.

  • Lifelong Learning: Protecting our vibrant youth and adult education programs, ensuring that the study of Torah and Jewish heritage is available to every generation.

  • Sacred Lifecycles: Ensuring that our clergy and staff are always here to guide us through our most tender moments—from the joy of a birth to the comfort of a shiva.

  • Vibrant Programming: Allowing our community events, holiday celebrations, and daily davening accessible at little to no set cost.

How it Works:

An endowment is a "forever fund." Your gift is invested, and we only use the interest generated each year to offset operational costs. This means your contribution remains a permanent bedrock, providing a steady heartbeat of support for our mission long into the future.

Ways to Contribute:

Every gift helps us build a Jewish future where everyone belongs. When you contribute to our endowment, your impact is doubled: 80% of your gift goes to the Bet Shalom Endowment Fund to Meet Tomorrow’s Needs (held at Jewish Philanthropies of Southern Arizona) and 20% goes to our Present Needs Fund (held at Vanguard).
